Chelsea Fights Against Sanction Due To Traore Transfer
Chelsea have denied that they have broken any rules over the signing of Bertrand Traore amid suggestions that they could face a transfer ban from Fifa.
Traore, who began his career at French club Auxerre, officially joined Chelsea at the age of 18 in January 2014, although he had featured for the club’s under-18s team against Arsenal in 2011.
Fifa does not allow the international transfer of a minor (an under-18) - a rule that has seen both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid handed transfer bans for the next two windows.
Barcelona were also found guilty of breaking the same rule in 2014 and were also handed a transfer suspension which lasted for two windows.
But Chelsea have insisted that there has been no wrongdoing over Traore’s move.
"Bertrand Traore was registered by Chelsea FC in January 2014 in compliance with FA and Premier League Rules,” a Chelsea spokesperson told Press Association Sport.
"Prior to that date, he was party to an option agreement which enabled the club to acquire his registration in January 2014.
"The option agreement was registered with, and approved by, both The FA and the Premier League."
