Ajax Star In A "COME and GET" Me Plea To Top Clubs

Ajax left-back Nicolai Boilesen has confirmed that he wants to depart the Amsterdam club before the end of January but is also willing to be patient for the “perfect” club to sign him.

Although the 23-year-old has enjoyed a startling rise to prominence at the Amsterdam ArenA, he has endured a difficult spell since the end of last season. A move to Genoa fell through at the last minute, while interest from Aston Villa, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla ultimately came to nothing before his declaration that he would not extend his present contract, which runs out in June, saw him frozen out by Ajax boss Frank de Boer.

Boilesen, a full Denmark international, has since been training with the reserves and has not even been allowed to turn out at that level.

“Of course I want to leave Ajax right now, but it might not happen, so the most important thing is not to panic,” he told Goal. “Finding the perfect place to be is not easy, and especially not in the January transfer window.

“Last year I told the club that I wouldn’t sign a new contract because I felt I needed a new footballing challenge. I am proud of having played for a big cub like Ajax, winning four Eredivisie championships, but I felt that it was time to try something different - and to get out of my comfort zone to develop myself as a player.”

The former Brondby youth has been linked with clubs in all of Europe’s top leagues but said he currently does not have a preference where he goes.

“We are looking for the perfect club, where I can continue to develop myself as a player at a high level,” he continued. “I am not looking at money and I never have been. When I first signed for Ajax, I didn’t even know my salary. My only focus was on football – and it remains that way.

“The club reacted by not allowing me to be in the first team and not even to play matches with the reserves. It was a huge contrast to the last few months of last season, where I finished as the club captain playing with the armband, but I guess that’s just the way professional football works sometimes.”

Despite those setbacks, the left-back is trying to remain positive.

“Frustration doesn't help a lot,” he said. “So I’ve been training really hard six days a week at the club, and I am now in my best physical shape ever.

"It’s been like a six months pre-season. I’ve had focus on strengthening parts of my body to avoid injuries in the future, and in that way I have come out of this half year as a stronger and fitter player. But do I miss matches? Yeah, like crazy but I won't panic!”
