FAILURE IN NIGERIA'S EDUCATION TODAY.

The Buhari led administration has promised free education and we are yet to see such promises been kept in Nigeria for a long time coming,well a quick peep into Nigeria's education system over decades ago wouldn't cost a thing,if you say it has been a failure to the labour market with various
adopted education system alongside the launching of FREE PRIMARY EDUCATION PROGRAMME in 1955,by the government of WESTERN REGION OF NIGERIA but UNIVERSAL BASIC EDUCATION[UBE] Programme was introduced in Nigeria in September 1988 which had one basic OBJECTIVE which was a FREE PRIMARY EDUCATION for all.
Following this, in 2008 the
Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Nigerian Educational Research and
Development Council (NERDC) developed and introduced the 9-Year Basic Education
Curriculum (BEC) in schools by realigning all extant Primary and Junior
Secondary School Curricula to meet the key targets of the UBE programme. In
view of some contemporary and national concerns and to make the curriculum more
practical, relevant, interest generating to the young learners and in line with
global best practices, the 9-year BEC was recently revised in 2012 and its
implementation has just commenced in September, 2014.
Many 1st class graduates are not well appreciated in the labour market today and they end up filling themselves into a mediocritic jobs like cleaners,nanny,messenger,secretary,receptionist e.t.c
CHALLENGES IN THE GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS.
The major challenges students face in the schools owned by governments are numerous but i'ld love to highlight few:-
- TEACHERS attitude: No-one wants to work for free without being rerwarded at the end of the month but its known that "A TEACHER'S REWARD IS NOT ON EARTH" but if they are paid well they would be delligent.

- QUALITY OF TEACHERS
- EXTRA CURRICULUM
- VOCATIONAL TRAINING
This article is focused
on the structure, special features and the implementation strategy of the
Revised 9-Year Basic Education Curriculum with some emphasis on the Basic
Science and Technology component as one of the key cluster subjects prepared
with the aim of catching the young learner to love science, learn science and
create change in the learners environment.
